Food & Bio Cluster Denmark is the national cluster for food and bioresources in Denmark. The organization supports innovation and sustainable development and facilitates collaboration between startups, corporates, and investors.
With a network of over 500 startups and participation in Denmark’s largest accelerator, Beyond Beta, the cluster focuses on commercialization and internationalization of solutions within foodtech, agtech, and biosolutions.
3. DESCRIPTION OF THE TASK UNDER MARKET EXPLORATION:
Blue Loop Protein ApS is a Danish marine protein upcycling startup developing a premium B2B marine collagen peptide powder extracted from whitefish-bone. The product targets the EUR 1 billion European marine collagen market, currently growing at 9.5% annually. All existing competitors source marine collagen exclusively from fish skin. BlueLoop extracts collagen from fish bone, a unique multi-type collagen profile with mineral co-delivery of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. No competing product provides this profile from a single marine source.
The startup is currently executing its first production trial at DTI (Danish Technological Institute), working toward a 5–10 kg laboratory-scale sample.
The task concerns strictly advisory and consultancy services across four areas:
a. External review and guidance on the ongoing DTI collaboration, an independent expert assessment of the trial design, process assumptions, and key technical decision points
b. Sharpening technical and commercial assumptions: stress-testing cost structure, yield assumptions, and production parameters
c. Financial due diligence and unit economics validation: assessing whether a viable business can be built at commercial scale, identifying capital requirements for scale-up, and pressure-testing the underlying business model
d. Go-to-market strategy: outlining a prioritised commercial roadmap with actionable milestones and timeline, covering B2B customer approach, market entry sequencing.
4. OBJECTIVES AND SUCCESS CRITERIA:
The objectives of the assignment are to enable the BlueLoop team to:
· Make informed technical decisions regarding the DTI production trial, process design, and scale-up pathway
· Validate or revise the unit economics and capital requirements underpinning the commercial business case
· Develop a clear, prioritised go-to-market strategy with actionable milestones through 2026–2027
Success criteria: The assignment is considered successful when the BlueLoop team has a validated set of technical and commercial assumptions, a clear view of capital requirements for commercial scale, and a prioritised GTM roadmap to guide first customer engagement.
